I respond to a supposed hit and run with injuries where a vehicle hit a light pole and a fire hydrant and all the occupants bailed out.  When I get there I see the light pole is snapped in half and there are power lines lying all over the roadway.  Across the street I see a vehicle stuck up against a fire hydrant.  I run the vehicles tag number and it comes back stolen, which was a given.  FPL comes out and cleans up the power lines and I start getting fingerprints

from the vehicle and working on my report when a group of people come up to me and say that they know the occupants that were in the vehicle.  They tell me there were 4 occupants in the vehicle and the front seat passenger points out the window for the driver towards these people that had just left the store.  Just after he points them out the driver makes a sharp turn towards the group.  They said that they had to jump out of the way to avoid be struck with the vehicle and then they try to run away.  That’s when the driver of the vehicle tries to quickly turn around and come back after them, but runs the side of the vehicle up against a fire hydrant and gets the car stuck.  Well, they tell us the guys are sitting outside in front of a house right up the road so I get a backup unit and we head over there to make contact with them.

We arrive at the residence and most of the guys are gone now, but there are still a couple of people.  We start getting all there information and one of the guys says his name and he is the front seat passenger.  Well, instead of running when we pulled up I guess he figured it would be better to give us his name first.  After he gives us his name he jumps up and takes off running.  We start chasing him up the road and he goes around the block.  I head back towards the residence in case he doubles back while my back up continues around the block with him.  We get a perimeter setup and K9 and our helicopter respond to the area.  After about an hour of K9 searching for him they cant get a good track and call it off.  Unfortunately we didn’t get him that time, but we will get him the next time.
