I was on my own for a couple of months when I went out with this 6’04” 250 pound guy riding a bike around in the middle of the night.  I went to teletype to check him for warrants and they came back with a warrant.  I requested a routine backup and stood by on teletype while they confirmed the warrant.  When my backup unit arrived on scene I asked the subject to turn around and place his hands behind his back.  That was it; it was on at that point.  He replied

with, “oh hell no,” and then tried to take off on the bike.  I chased him a few steps into the roadway and grabbed a hold of him; however, he turned around and started punching me in the face.  We struggled with each other for a few seconds and he broke free and took off running.  I chased him down a side street and behind some houses yelling, “stop or I’m gonna tase you!”  Did he stop?  Of course not, do they ever?  So we kept running until he jumped over a fence where my backup had setup on the outside of the fence, but on the other side of the yard.  I took my taser out and fired at him as he was violently fleeing!  Unfortunately, only one prong struck him and stuck.  Once he realized that my backup was on the other side of the yard, he turned back to run towards me and my backup also fired his taser, also only hitting him with one prong (we don’t seem to be having much luck at this point).  Fortunately I had quickly reloaded my taser with another cartridge, and I guess he thought we were playing baseball because instead of running to an open end of the yard he kept running back and forth between us like a game of pickle (no one said criminals were smart).  The second time I fired my taser I struck him in the back of the head and somewhere around the lower back.  Well, he came tumbling down and half of his face hit the dirt and the other half hit the concrete front porch and busted his face wide open.  That was the end for him, he decided it would be in his best interest to surrender and he was taken into custody.  And wouldn't you know it, the State Attorney dropped it from a Battery LEO to resisting without violence.  He ended up getting out a few months later with time served and was right back in jail a month later for Burglary Battery.
